Welcome PAs!

We can't wait to see all of you at camp this year! PAs are the heart and soul of camp and we could not run camp without each and every one of you. Our goal is to have our PAs help actually plan more aspects of camp! We want your voices to be heard. Another goal is to have special events all year for the PAs. We're currently planning a movie night and Camp Jamboree!

The Basics

As a reminder, PAs or Program Assistants, are campers in grade 7 through 12. They help run camp by teaching new skills to younger campers and being in charge of core activities. PAs can also be paired with a unit for the week and learn the responsibility of being the unit leader or helper. Our PA Coordinators, aka Lori, Holly, and Shantel, will be in touch before camp and assign everyone a role at camp and facilitate overnight activities. When registering for camp, please make sure to buy a camp shirt ahead of time. As PAs, shirts are not included in the normal registration fees (like for regular campers) and supplies are limited.

During camp hours, everyone is expected to dress appropriately (no booty shorts, flip flops, tank tops, etc). Please remember you are setting the standard for our campers! If you wish to change into more comfortable clothes after camp, you are welcome to (but please be mindful).

PAs have the opportunity to stay over at camp on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday nights. We will offer canoeing/kayaking almost every night (with weather permitting) and plan to have sessions of archery, craft, and lacing available for those interested! The PA coordinators will have a dinner and breakfast menu planned but you are welcome to bring your own food and snacks if you wish.

There is a MANDATORY meeting for all PAs on Sunday, August 3rd before camp. Everyone will confirm their camp roles and overnight arrangements. If a PA is not spending the night but is driving to camp each day, they must park at Northstar, not by the PA cabins. There is no driving during camp hours! Everyone is welcome to bring a bike but must wear a helmet. (Note: It is easier to use the trails alongside the lake for walking as the landscape is very hilly.)

If you wish to help plan camp beforehand, please reach out to the camp directors at northernlightscampdirectors@gmail.com! We are currently planning to have scheduled meetings to help plan camp (the schedule is TBD).
